Apple have just released their new, 3rd Gen iPod Shuffle which, apart from coming with 4GB of integrated storage capacity and a VoiceOver feature (in essence a talking menu system designed to compensate for the device’s lack of display), comes from a wholly minimalist perspective, with the removal of the previously utilised control wheel serving to render the device wholly devoid of surface clutter.
Certainly, whilst we simply couldn’t live without a display (hence ruling out the Shuffle altogether) there’s no doubt that the new, minimalist streamlined design is an approach that will, just has been the case with just about every Apple design, be adopted in varying degrees by many digital audio players offered subsequently by other manufacturers. So the question is, just how cool is the new 3rd Gen iPod Shuffle? Has Apple got it right or do you feel that they’ve neglected (ease of) function in preference to form?
Do the heavily revised aesthetics appeal to you? We’re intrigued as to how you rate the new design and look forward to you reflecting its appeal (or lack thereof) in your voting.
