It’s rare for us to include a gadget here on EP that we’ve featured on our sister site, TFTS, but there are, every so often, certain gadgets that simply deserve exposure on both sites and that’s undoubtedly the case when it comes to Cowon’s new S9 Curve Portable Media Player which is widely touted as being a direct competitor to Apple’s iPod Touch.
Featuring a 3.3” AMOLED capacitive touchscreen display which, thanks to its low power consumption extends the S9 Curve’s endurance to around a not unimpressive forty hours, further highlights include integrated G-Sensor technology – allowing for gesture control and built-in accelerometer which serves to switch the S9 Curve’s display between portrait and landscape modes depending on the S9’s orientation – and a dual-core CPU running at 500MHz though, unfortunately, due to lack of support, the Cowon S9 Curve will come sans T-DMB mobile TV tuner when it begins shipping this month in the US.
Full specifications and pricing are yet to be made available by Cowon, though its widely expected that both eh 8GB and 16GB versions of Cowon’s S9 Curve PMP will be priced very competitively in comparison to Apple’s iPod Touch.
Certainly, as we don’t offer voting on TFTS, we’ll be especially interested to see how, on initial inspection at least, you rate Cowon’s S9 Curve which will, in no small way, serve to indicate whether Cowon indeed have a true iPod Touch beater on their hands (personally, we suspect they might).
