In an age where so many of us are seemingly glued to a chair for such a large proportion of our waking lives the comfort of our chairs is by no means of trivial concern and, to that end, Jian Guan’s SmartChair has been designed to adapt dynamically so as to ensure the optimum comfort courtesy of numerous sensors embedded within the seat.
Sporting a somewhat chunky design that, should this chair ever see the light of day, we would hope can be revised to be of rather lesser proportions, the SmartChair Biofeedback chair will adapt to your every movement thanks to an integrated computer that will re-configure the SmartChair dynamically to ensure the maximum of comfort according to posture – with springs housed in the seat and the backrest, as well as the headrest, being raised and lowered to ensure the seat moulds to your every move.
Unfortunately merely a conceptual work at the time of writing, Jian Guan’s SmartChair would undoubtedly be a fine addition to any office or, for that matter, long haul airliners whose seats, after the first ten hours or so of an intercontinental flight, tend to prove extremely uncomfortable.
